As of March 2013, solar panels have been generating power at the Salem Convention Center for 2 years! We take great pride in our efficient solar panel system because it saves money by lowering our energy costs and it helps us meet our commitment to preserve the environment. Photo: InSpec Energy Solutions Since the SANYO HIT Power® 220A solar panel 99-kilowatt system was installed in 2011, the energy generated equals 1,392 60-watt bulbs for 1 year of 8 hours day use. 175 tons of CO2 (this equals 4390 trees!!) 974 gallons of gas saved Other organizations who value sustainability like Oregon Refuse & Recycling Association and Friends of Straub Environmental Learning Center can feel good that they are hosting events in an EarthWISE certified and LEED® Certified facility. We like to practice what we preach and some of our other initiatives include: Composting throughout entire facility Utilizing Earth friendly cleaning solutions and drainage system Supporting local economy by purchasing products and food from local suppliers Using recycled paper for all printed material Purchasing wind power through PGE Replacing all lighting with cool white compact fluorescent lighting Extensive recycling of all plastic material and Styrofoam Participating with “Clean the World,” by recycling all used soap products from guest rooms Encouraging guests to re-use their bedding and towels to cut down on energy use Sleeping room and public area recycling Operating on Energy Star appliances To learn more about the Salem Convention Center's sustainable practices, visit our website or feel free to contact our office at (866) 614-1900.
