It's no secret that the Salem Convention Center takes great pride in our green initiatives that include a comprehensive recycling program, solar panels, water conservation, low wattage florescent lighting (just to name a few!). This week, General Manager Chrissie Bertsch, Head Chef Tory Knaus, and Special Events Coordinator Soraida Cross represented the Salem Convention Center at The 100 Best Green Companies celebration luncheon Wednesday, May 29, at The Nines Hotel in Portland . At the luncheon, hosted by Oregon Business magazine, the company rankings were revealed as the June 2013 issue of Oregon Business magazine was unveiled. Considering the stiff competition, we were delighted and honored to be ranked #21 on this list! It is also refreshing to see so many other Oregon businesses devote their efforts to creating a sustainable work environment and green practices at their workplace. We are pleased the movement is growing each year! Based on its widely recognized 100 Best Companies to Work For in Oregon project, the 100 Best Green Companies were determined by an anonymous employee survey and an independent assessment of the employers' sustainability practices. There were 440 organizations and more than 18,000 employees participating in the project. This is not our first time appearing on this prestigious list. In 2012 the Salem Convention Center ranked #7 on the list of the 100 Best Green Companies to Work For in Oregon. The 2013 100 Best Green Companies are featured in the June issue of Oregon Business magazine. For a full list of the 100 winners, go to OregonBusiness.com.
